The Paris of the Pacific

Sitka is nestled in a protected sound on the West coast of Baranof Island in the Alexander Archipelago. With a population just under 9,000 you'd never guess that this little town is the largest city-borough in the United States. That's because the city itself only takes up a small fraction of the mass amount of land and water it owns (4,800+ square miles, slightly larger than the state of Rhode Island).

The word Sitka comes from a Tlingit word meaning "People on the outside." The Tlingit people are believed to have settled on the island over 10,000 years ago, but the town was colonized in 1804 by Russian explorers.

Inside & Outside Waters

Because of Sitka's strategic placement it's protected by several smaller islands which makes it easy to fish in all sorts of weather. When it's nice and not too rough we can head out in open ocean, and when it picks up it's simple to change course and tuck into one of many channels, narrows, or bays to fish all day long.

Majestic Views

Not just a fishing community, Sitka is draped by a beautiful 360 degree backdrop. It's not unusual to catch nature in action on one of our excursions. Whether it's humpback whales, sea otters, harbor seals, bald eagles, or anything in between, the possiblities are endless for making life lasting memories.
